Bigirimana made his professional debut on 8 August 2011 in a 1–0 Championship loss to Leicester City, playing the full 90 minutes. The Burundi-born youngster graduated from the Sky Blues' youth set-up to sign his first professional deal for the club in the summer of 2011.
The central midfielder penned a deal that sees him at the Ricoh Arena until June 2013.
He also played a heavily involved role in the Sky Blues' first team pre-season preparations for the 2011/12 campaign.[1]
Described as an all-rounder, Bigirimana had an unorthodox trial at the club and had it not been for a sharp-eyed coach, very nearly slipped through the net.
The following is a quote from Coventry City Academy Manager Gregor Rioch "Gael is originally from Burundi in Africa and his family moved over and knocked on the door as a 12-year old and asked for a trial," "He was told he would have to play for a local team and be seen but then as he ran up the road one of the scouts saw this athlete sprinting away and called him back, and thankfully he did because he is an extreme talent, he really is."
"He can play absolutely anywhere. He's a footballer but we look at him as an Essien-type of footballer in central midfield, sat in front of the back four who can pick the ball up and play."
